Esperanza

The municipality of Esperanza belongs to the small town of Inopacan and is located on the west coast of Leyte about 5 km north of Inopacan in a small bay. The island of Leyte belongs to the Philippines and is located in the Visayas archipelago.

You can get a small impression of the area with the YouTube video linked here.

Esperanza from above

Three of the four islands of the Cuatro Islas archipelago (4 islands) belong to the administrative area of Inopacan and are located directly in front of the bay of Esperanza. These are already developed for tourism and invite you to snorkel, dive or simply lie on the sandy beach. Boat tours can be taken on and between the islands. These are organized by the local tourism office in Inopacan. The underwater world was badly damaged by the destructive dynamite fishing. The first different types of coral can already be discovered near the islands. Particular caution is required with crown-of-thorns starfish, which can occasionally be found in shallow water.

Here is a nice introduction to the Cuatro Islas

Cuatro Islas

A legend tells:

In the old days, most parts of the Visayas Islands were attacked by marauding pirates from Mindanao. However, the settlement (which later became known as Inopacan) was spared because the legendary dragon-sized serpent attacked the pirate's "pankos" (boats) before he could even get on land. The serpent inhabited a cave in a cape on the western side of the settlement. The cape cave is known to this day as "Bay-sa-has" or home of the serpent. When the serpent died, the settlement continued to enjoy a life of peace and security because another protector of the people appeared, a legendary man named Inong who was gifted with supernatural powers. He was very agile, fast and jumped so high that people believed he could fly. Due to these extraordinary powers, he was widely known as "Inong Pak-an". The nickname means "man with wings".
